Infrared taps can be specified as either mains powered or 'plug & play' battery operated. Ideally suited for water saving, the taps are tamper resistant so that they will not continue to run if the sensor gets covered - by chewing gum for instance. Professional standard commercial taps are very unlikely to activate accidentally by PIR lighting or persons in Hi-Viz clothing walking past.
